HCB Review #11 & 12 - Boundary Road & Bourke Street Bakery

HCB #11 - Boundary Road HCBs (available at Harris Farm) 6 for $5.

Rating 2/5

First, please admire the cute Easter setting for my HCB pic! (Thanks Magic Music Woman!)

I realise I am giving lots of these 2/5. This may not be helping any differentiate between HCBs a lot but I ask you stay with me. On one hand it means there are many run-of-the-mill HCBs. It also means, that you can buy others other than Coles and get the same HCB fix (and away from the supermarket duopoly).

Boundary Road is sold as a prepackaged HCB from Harris Farm and maybe other stores. It has a purple packet (that I missed photographing) and is tightly sealed. This can only mean one thing - it will last forever (for good and for bad). And this is true. These buns do seem to last quite a long time. They are very square (a bit unappetising) and very VERY soft. A little too soft. You need a bit of structure when you bite into a bun. They have quite an appealing slight hint of peel but no real spice. These are better, I think, than the Harris Farm brand HCBs so if you have a choice, get these. They will last longer too.

HCB #12 - Bourke Street Bakery (various locations) HCB Loaf $7
Rating 4/5

Size comparison of loaf vs ordinary HCB

I reviewed these last year and so expectations are pretty high. I can honestly say it's only because these things are huge they do not get a 5. These are great to share with others and also to slowly slice pieces off and enjoy by yourself. Bourke St loaf has a good mix of spice, fruit & peel. It isn't super soft (which is to expected with such a massive bun) but it taste very nice toasted with butter, like any good HCB. A good one to take into the office to bring some Easter sweetness into work. Your office may demolish it like mine did in 5 minutes!!
