HCB #6 & #7 - Bowen & Balfour
Bowen Island Bakery $2.50 each or $13.98 for 6

Behind every great woman is a great man (or partner or family) and mine is no exception. The Man has been helping me buy HCBs for my review and even tasting a few on the way (maybe I am converting him?!) So I don't know the price of these buns that arrived as a 6 pack in our house. What I do know is that the price won't matter. This are not a nice bun. They are hard, very ugly, not inedible and very brick like. Don't bother. If these are the only ones available for you to buy at your shop, get in the car and go to another shop. If it's 10pm and your local Coles/Woolworths is closed, go home, enjoy the fact you didn't put on your HCB calories for that day and then wake the next day and buy other HCBs. Maybe use two day's worth of HCB quotas at once.

These are pretty famous buns that get reviewed by the major reviewers every year so you might be shocked at the low rating. I am fortunate that it's in my suburb so I don't have to travel too far to get them. These buns are very rustic looking and I am sure there are some who like it. These are a very tasty bun - if you like peel. The peel taste makes this taste better than the HCBs you buy 6 for the equivalent of Bowen's 1 HCB, but I don't think the taste, or look outweighs the cost. This is also a tough bun. You need to eat it in the cafe straight away to really enjoy all $2.50/6-pack-from-Coles worth of value for it.
Balfour's (available through independent supermarkets) Not sure of price but it doesn't matter.
