HCB # 13 & 14 - on the east side

HCB #13 - St Honore's (various locations)  - $1 each or 6 for $5
Rating 1/5

This is a very rustic looking bun. It's cute. Love the glaze (I'm a sucker for glaze) The price point is pretty good but it actually wasn't a great bun. To quote my taste-tester helper The Man, it was "dry and spongy". The cross was crunchy which was more weird than nice. It lacked taste or texture and did not hold together really well. This is their first review of these after I have been meaning to check them out for several years. And, sad to say, I won't be hopping across town to get theirs again any time soon.

HCB #14 - Davian's Bakery in Edgecliff - 80c each or 6 for $3.50
Rating 4/5

I nearly didn't take a photo because I totally didn't expect much from this bun. Not the best photo. And yes, I see what u see! That cake underneath for $3.50!! 😉

This hot cross bun may not be much to look at but it was a very very pleasant surprised. I saw this after buying HCB #13 and just thought I would pop one into the shopping bag.  I am so sad I only bought one and shared that one with The Nan (and yes, not a miss spelling - the NAN). It is a soft bun (which I like) and it's quite small. No super funky looking but the taste is excellent! A lovely mix of spice and peel!! The peel, which is not usually my favourite, took this bun to the next level. If you ever find yourself in Edgecliff  and want HCBs, go here! Skip past Coles, avoid Harris Farm, run straight past Aldi, ignore St Honore's and go to this corner bakery near the florist. It's actually just above Edgecliff station which makes this HCB just a train ride away.
