Review #19 - The swanky too-cool-for-school HCB - Sonoma x $3.50 for 1, Score 3

These are a new HCB to the review. They are a very attractive bun, with lots of glaze and a nice colour. One part of me enjoyed looking at this bun but another part was quite horrified there was NO CROSS. Yes, I repeat, NO CROSS. It has a swanky "S" obviously for Sonoma (though maybe for Swanky). I appreciate the originality of the concept but I honestly think is takes away from the hot cross bun. There is a good mix of fruit and spice except the fruit is over powered quite a bit by the inclusion of cranberries into the fruit mix. Too many cranberries. I thought I like cranberries but this bun proved you can have too many. These are also a tad expensive so unless you like cranberries and have a Sonoma bakery near you, this might be good for something different, to jazz up the Easter celebrations.

Review #20 - When the local will do - Crispy Inn Bakery $1.50 x 1. Score 2.

This local Newtown bakery, run by friendly asian family was recommended by a friend last year but I think this is the first time I finally visited. The fun itself has lots of fruit and peel but not much spice. Good value for money if you are basing it on the fruit ingredients. But the overall taste was much to be desired.  If you are in Newtown and want to give your money to small business, this bun will do you just fine.
