2018 # review 6, 7, & 8 - The Top Performers!!

Clockwise from bottom: Dolcettis, Bakehouse and Zumbo.

These three HCBs are all jostling for poll position and it is a tough contest. All of these come from prestigious bakeries.  They all look great! Have nice shiny glaze and look fantastic on a plate.  Two of them have been top contenders and one (Dolcettis) took out top gong last year.

So, what about this year?

Trying very hard to get it's nose in front - Bakehouse 4/5 - $2.90 for one or $14 for 6.

The Bakehouse has been consistently good HCB over the years. The big issue is the cost but it is still a good bun. The cost makes it not an everyday bun, however, if you are wanting to not let others down with your HCB choice this Easter, this is a safe bet.

Just behind the 8 ball because it is got too much fruit - Zumbo 4/5 - $2.60 for one or $13.50 for 6.

This is a beautiful looking bun. Very rustic and full of flavour, definitely what you expect from the Sweetest man in town, Adriano Zumbo. BUT, it has too much fruit for me and so weighs the bun down for me. I am not the biggest fan of peel. I confess, you need a little bit, to give the HCB a push and separate it from the regular buns out there.  But not this has a touch too much to make it a 5/5.  Good for those peel fans out there though!!

Poll position by a whisker - Dolcettis 5/5,  $12 for 6.

This is a really lovely bun.  The yellow crosses stand out and, with the glaze, make this HCB highly attractive (ie. yummy!). The home of this HCB is a hidden gem in Wareemba (sounds like it should be in the Blue Mountains. It's actually in the Inner west of Sydney). This is a bun you can buy and know that everyone will enjoy them and it was worth battling Lyons Rd, Parramatta Rd or Great North Rd (whichever way you came).
